Blogger’s Ego and Why You MUST Have One

Usually the mere mention of ego does produce a negative image. The kind that makes being around the people who have them a challenge. Every time I think of egos now Beyonce’s song “Ego” comes to mind. Huge egos.

The guy who believes the world revolves around his existence and takes credit for everything good. The woman who believes her beauty is above and beyond anyone elses. This is not the kind of ego that I am referring to.

However, having an ego is one of life’s necessities. Without it a person would succumb to all manners of self defeat. Even the simplest tasks would be insurmountable because the person would have convinced himself that he/she was incapable of doing anything well.

So for us bloggers we have to have an ego as well. What does this mean?

As a new blogger I did not have a lot of confidence in my writing. It was a combination of inexperience and a lack of ability in developing exactly what I wanted to say in words. So I was very insecure.

Until the day that I wrote something and it struck me. It was good. I actually liked what I wrote and not only that I felt a sense of pride in my work. The next post the words didn’t seem quite as hard to come by and I began to develop my own voice. Not only that I began to recognize it as well. At that moment I felt that what I had to say mattered and could be useful to someone else.

That was when I developed my blogger’s ego.

The kind that a blogger must have is that their writing is important. Important enough even to stand out among others. With the huge crop of bloggers there are you must have enough ego to truly believe in yourself. Your confidence will translate into inspiring your readers. That is what blogging is all about. We want to use our words to inspire some change or action or to influence people to invest in us.

If you don’t feel that you have developed that ego as of yet take a good long look at your writing. Find what you like best about it and realize what you have achieved as well as what you are capable of.

Thanks for reading,

Blogger’s ego? Write it and post it. That’s my approach. I have been writing a lot. I don’t even ask my wife, kids and close friends to critique, I just post. Since I started this aggressive composition my confidence has tripled.

    Thank you for your post

Thank you for your comment Lance. When I began I wanted everyone’s opinion on what I wrote. The problem with that is you always will have some who give positive and some who give negative critiques. You have to just rely on your own ability. That’s where that ego comes to play. The confidence to know that what you say has value. Obviously you’ve got yours and that fuels bloggers to keep going.
