2 Reasons Why Twitter Uses Blogger instead of WordPress for its official Blog

I don’t know why I care, but I do. During Twitters recent many fail whale outages I finally after drawing all sorts of conclusions I went to Twitter’s official blog to find out why. After reading their enigmatic response, I noticed that Twitter of all the social media sites has a Blogger blog.

Not that I have anything against Blogger. Okay I kinda do have something against Blogger. But I was surprised. If it was Myspace, I could totally see that. But it isn’t. (No offense to any Blogger users. I used to have a Blogger blog) This was no premium Blogger blog either. It was complete with the “Next Blog” button and everything. Of course I clicked the Next Blog button! Found this little gem. I would have jumped through flaming hoops to be the next blog behind Twitter’s blog (astronomical traffic).

Alright let me cut to the chase. While I could have simply asked Twitter why it uses Blogger instead of WordPress I have once again decided to formulate my own theories. Here’s 2 reasons Twitter uses a Blogger blog instead of WordPress: It’s all about relationships

1. Google is buying Twitter?

Back in April there was some buzz that Google (which owns Blogger) was in talks to buy Twitter. If this is true let’s face it: If you work at McDonald’s you don’t show up to work eating KFC. Meaning: If Google is going to buy Twitter no doubt it would be integrating its soon to be adoptive parent company’s products.

2. Beef with Matt Mullenweg — WordPress creator

Matt Mullenweg had some thoughts recently about Twitter and its API. His statement read like a sort of backhanded dis/compliment/let me not completely burn this bridge type of statement. So if I was Twitter and I read things the way I read things, then I might conclude to cold shoulder WordPress and opt for Blogger.

Twitter posted a blog post entitled “Hello World” where it addresses the API changes that may have prompted Mullenweg’s comments . If “Hello World” sounds familiar it’s because it is the title of the default first post of a WordPress blog.

Photobucket

*cue dramatic music* Is the title a digg at Mullenweg? That’s my theory.

Bear in mind that these theories really have no basis but what I came up with in my creative head mixed with a little internet CSI. Either way there has to be some logical explanation why Twitter would choose Blogger over WordPress. Maybe you know the truth. My default: Facebook is behind this.

Or it could be that twitter is cheap, they get massive traffic on their blog page and they can offload that traffic onto googles servers instead of burdening their already taxed servers. Thus way you can still access their blog even when twitter is failing. Remember wordpress causes you to maintain your own server. Good theories though!!
