The song “Evolve” has been playing in my head for weeks since I first heard it in Gatorade’s new campaign for its G Series. Imagine my surprise when I learned that the song was written, produced and arranged by rapper David Banner.
It is performed by Blackstreet’s newest member Kermit Quinn aka Quinn who was also nominated alongside Boney James for a Grammy for Best Traditional R & B for their remake of the Isley Brothers’ “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonght”. You can listen to the track here off of Boney James’ Send One Your Love album. The talented Quinn’s voice is reminiscent of great R&B singers like Sam Cooke and has made Banner’s Evolve resonate with many music lovers young and old.
While “Evolve” is labeled as a hip hop song it certainly was one that registered as pure R&B and had me digging through the archives trying to find it. Here is the full song:
David Banner known for his songs like “Get Like Me” (Stuntin’ is a habit) featuring Chris Brown is releasing an album this summer entitled, “Death of a Pop Star” which includes “Evolve”. You can download the full song on Gatorade’s website.
The words of the song, “If you want a revolution the only solution, evolve” are true. Forget sports, let’s hope this is the evolution of music.
