Faux, False, Façade: No matter how you say it, it still means Fake

We live in a fake world and are surrounded by all things fake. The reason I bring this up is because a person can completely change who they are by attaching themselves to fake things. For example:

A woman can have:

  • Fake hair
  • Fake eyes
  • Fake nails
  • Fake other parts (you know what I mean so don’t make me say it)

A man can have:

  • Fake net worth
  • Fake job
  • Fake girlfriend
  • Fake car

Obviously the woman’s list shows how women are more driven to enhance the physical appearance, (this post isn’t about whether or not to wear a wig) men may seek to enhance their reputation or social status (usually to attract the above-mentioned ladies) by claiming to have things that may not be true. Either way there is no shortage of ways people seem to falsify their whole personality and lifestyle.

We have seen recently in the news with certain political and sports figures how all these things can and will catch up with you. Words like faux, false and façade belie the simple fact that there is some degree of lying or deception being done in an attempt to fool others.

I am speaking from a perspective of having firsthand experience of what deception can do to you and your life, your relationships, and your ability to garner trust from those you care about. When we live in a way that casts a light on what we know to be untrue, it always becomes known.

I used to cringe when I heard the expression “be your authentic self”. I used to think it was just psychobabble. But really being your authentic self is the only way to be. Being who you really are is freedom. The freedom to live your life knowing that although you aren’t perfect that there isn’t anything fake about you.
