Tis the season…to catch up on some reading

19 Dec
2009

It’s that time of year. The time of year when the view from most of our windows will look like this and we may be singing this song:

This is generally accompanied by watching every John Hughes, Tyler Perry, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, and Disney film ever made. Not to mention at least Titanic and the Notebook once. So why not get out that book that you haven’t gotten a chance to read. That’s what I plan to do.

Here is my wintertime to do list. Book wise.

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky

This book-the width of a loaf of bread-is one of my fave books of all time. I read it about twenty years ago when I was fourteen and it was captivating to me. I actually slept with it under my pillow. Yep, I am was a nerd. It’s so descriptive yet it’s main character is so ordinary but conflicted at the same time it was one of those books that connected me to the power of words. Seriously, the main character had a fever that literally drove him crazy. There was no Tylenol back then either. So it’s been on my must read again list for a long time. Honestly, there is about a 4060 chance that I’ll read the whole thing by the time winter is over but you gotta love ambitious goals.

The Bible by God

Yes, I’m serious. I love reading the bible. Why? I base my life and decisions off of it and it and it is by far the greatest work of non-fiction literature there is. I already make it a goal to read a portion every day but this time of year is a great time to do some extended reading.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey

I have to admit that I am not sure what the 7 habits are but I have owned this book for a while now and no time like the present to read it. I’m curious as to what these 7 habits are. I don’t read many what I would consider self-help type books but, who doesn’t want to be more highly effective? Especially by the time Summer starts.

So this is my list. What do you plan on reading on these cold wintry days and nights?

Thanks for reading!
