Palmolive surprises and other lies cheaters make up…

Will all the news of course cheating and other relationship issues are fresh on people’s minds. This sparked a conversation between the father of my children and myself that led to me once again referencing a running joke between him and I. When I was about twenty-two and fresh off of baby number one I noticed that he was beginning to be M.I.A. a lot. My suspicions led me to thinking that he had someone else. So like many young women after one of his excursions I went through his things when he came home. I discovered a receipt from a grocery store that had several suspicious items on it. One that stood out was Palmolive dish washing liquid. I thought maybe he bought some for our household but I didn’t see any new bottles of it. When I asked him about it he told me:

“I have a Palmolive Surprise for you.”

Hold on to your hats people because the killing part is that I believed him. In my mind this is what I was truly expecting:

Yes sir, I was that gullible. I waited and waited for him to spring this Palmolive surprise on me. While doing so I reminisced about the hand softening qualities of Palmolive as featured in this ad:

Yes Madge, I was indeed “soaking in it”. Days went to weeks and weeks to months and still no Palmolive surprise. Trust me, I was in anticipation of it because I asked him about it every day. Eventually the left side of my brain kicked in and the dreamer had to accept that this was a lie. My expectation turned to anger because I now realized that my Palmolive hopes had been burst into one huge bubble.

So subsequently anytime he said things I knew to be lies to cover up his infidelity I always referenced the Palmolive surprise. Even to this day. Although our relationship ended years ago I never forget to remind him of this from time to time. Which always results in him asking: “Why are you bringing up old stuff?” Now it’s a huge joke that we laugh off but back then it was so not funny. Ads like this made me cringe:

Just kidding. But, what is some ridiculous reasoning that a person (man or woman) gave you to cover up their transgression? (keep it PG please)
